Disclaimer: rde Connectors & Cables, Inc., cannot be held liable for failure to follow these instructions properly or for accidents that may occur during assembly. |
STEP 1 - CONNECTOR & TOOL
First, make sure you have all you need: (1) the assembled connector as shipped from us (RC-Style T); and (2) the assemly tool (RC-Z2099). For small quantities, you can also use the mating connector as an assembly tool.

STEP 2 - INITIAL PREPARATION
Strip off the jacket at a length of about 76 mm (3 inches) and slide the endbell and the black plastic cage with the seal ring over the jacket.
| |
STEP 3 - OPENING THE SHIELD
Open the braided shield and fold it backwards.
| |
STEP 4 - ADDING THE SHIELDING SLEEVE
Slide the shielding sleeve in a twisting motion over the wires and under the braid into the jacket (the protruding end has to point towards the jacket). This tends to be a bit difficult, so do not expect it to go easily. The following picture shows the shielding sleeve put in place (here the shield has already been cut; cf. next step).
| |
STEP 5 - CUTTING THE SHIELD
Cut the wires of the shield around the edge of the shielding sleeve, as shown.

| |
STEP 6 - ADDING THE CONNECTOR HOUSING
Bend the end of the wire bundle by about 90 degrees and slide the connector housing through.

| |
STEP 7 - ADJUSTING THE CABLE END
Push the cable end into the housing until the shielding sleeve stops at the edge inside of the housing.
| |
STEP 8 - CUTTING AND STRIPPING THE WIRES
Cut the wires off flush and strip off the wire ends corresponding to the contacts you are using.
| |
STEP 9 - CRIMPING
Crimp the desired pins or sockets to the wire ends.
| |
STEP 10 -- CLICKING THE CONTACTS INTO THE INSERT
Click the pins or sockets into the connector insert.

The following picture shows the insert with all contacts clicked in:

| |
STEP 11 - PUTTING ON THE PLASTIC COVER
Fold the collapsible black plastic cover around the connector insert.

| |
STEP 12 - PUSHING THE COUPLING NUT INTO THE INSERT
Push the coupling nut into the connector insert, watching the desired coding channel.

| |
STEP 13 - ATTACHING THE COUPLING NUT TO THE HOUSING
Push the coupling nut into the connector housing, but before threading, turn it to the desired position (east, west, north, or south). |
| |
STEP 14 - FINISHING THE BACK PART OF THE HOUSING (1)
Slide the black plastic cage with the seal ring into the back part of the housing, thus pushing the shielding sleeve into the housing, as shown. |
| |
STEP 15 - FINISHING THE BACK PART OF THE HOUSING (2)
Slide the endbell over the back part of the housing and screw it on. |
| |
STEP 16 - READY TO TIGHTEN
The following picture shows the assembly completed. We now need to tighten the endbell. (Proceed to next step.) |
| |
STEP 17 - TIGHTENING THE ENDBELL
Using the assembly tool as an aid, tighten the endbell with a wrench, as shown. Tighten it all the way until it stops, but do not overtighten. |
