Term Explanation

Backbone Wiring The physical and electrical interconnections between
telecommunications and closets and equipment rooms.

Balanced Line Two identical conductors which carry voltages opposite
in polarity and equal in magnitude with respect to ground.

Bandwidth The difference between the upper and lower limits of a given
  band of frequencies. (Hz)

Baud Unit of data transmission speed meaning bits per second.

BER The Bit Error Rate is the discrepancy between outgoing and
incoming bits transmitted between data quipments.

Bit One binary digit.

Bonding The method used to produce good electrical contact between
metallic parts of any device. Extensively used in aircrafts to
  prevent static build up.

Breakdown A disruptive discharge through the insulation.

Breakdown voltage The voltage at which the insulation between two conductors
  breaks down.

Bus-Bar-Wire Uninsulated tinned copper wire used as a common lead.

Byte A group of adjacent binary digits (8 bits)
