Term Explanation
   
   
dB Abbreviation for Decibel. A term that expresses two power levels
  used to indicate gains or losses in a system. 
   
DC Abbreviation for Direct Current. See Current DC.
   
Delay Line A transmission line device designed to delay a wave or signal
  for a specific length of time. 
   
Derating Factor A factor used to reduce the current carrying capacity of a cable
  when used in environments other than that for which the value was
  established.
   
Dielectric An insulating medium which intervenes between two conductors
  and permits electrostatic attraction and repulsion to take
  across it. 
   
Dielectric  Strength The voltage which an insulator can withstand before breakdown
  occurs.

Distortion Any undesired change in a wave form or signal.
   
Disturbance An undesired input variable that may occur at any point within 
  a feedback control system. 
   
Drain wire Uninsulated wire in conact with the shield of a cable. 
   
Duct A tube for carrying electrical cables.
