| PRELIMINARY STEP - PARTS |
| First, familiarize yourself with the parts. Some of them have fancy names. |
| |
| |
| STEP 1 |
| Strip the jacket off to a comfortable working length (>= 1½") and identify the conductors. |
| |
| STEP 2 |
| Put the hood and then the sealring onto the cable. |
| |
| STEP 3 |
Use your gage/assembly tool to check your cable and conductor size. The criteria for a Piercecon® application are as follows:
(a) the cable jacket must fit into the cable range hole but not through it;
(b) the conductors must fit into the the appropriate "white" or "black" gage holes, but not through them. Choose the white elastomer clamp for conductors that fit into the "white" opening, and the black clamp for conductors that fit into the "black" opening. |

| |
| STEP 4 |
Take the appropriate elastomer clamp (i.e., either white or black; see step 3) out of the cage and push the conductors through the clamp. Be sure to put the right colors into the right holes, according to your color code. Push the conductors as far as possible. Then put the cage back over the elastomer clamp and align it with the keying feature. Move the cage so far over the clamp until its stops at the end.
| |
| STEP 5 |
Press the sealring as far into the cage as possible without moving the cage or slipping off the jacket. Then align your assembly with the key in the assembly tool and press the hood towards the tool until it is firmly in place.
| |
| STEP 6 |
Now pull the assembly out of the assembly tool and then cut the conductors off flush. |
| |
| STEP 7 |
| Align the keying features of both the connect body and the elastomer clamp. Carefully screw the hood over the connect body (to avoid cross-threading) and tighten the hood sufficiently to provide good strain relief. |
| |
| DONE! |
| Note: Since metal and plastic-threaded components are used, take care not to cross-thread the two. If you feel this happening, simply back off the metal components and try again. |
